Times Reader Closer to Launch
August 31, 2006 by Marcus
Several months ago, readers heard about how the NY Times & Microsoft were working together to create a new reading experience. It seems as if the beta version of this product will be launching soon, though I’ll be curious to see if the Average Joe can give it a spin. When originally announced, Times Reader was only going to run on certain versions of Windows Vista, and if you’ve been paying attention to the news, Vista isn’t anywhere near close to launch.
If you’re the gambling sort, you could download a beta version of Vista, but that’s a bit of work (and risk) just to read the newspaper, isn’t it?
The Times Reader guys have been good about responding to blog traffic. Maybe they can tell us if the Times Reader beta launch will run in anything besides the Vista beta.

Marcus: What hasn’t been clearly mentioned in any releases regarding Times Reader is that it does, in fact, work just fine on Windows XP (SP2) and Windows Server 2003. You’ll just need to download the beta of the .NET Framework 3.0 first (the latest version is due soon). Hope you enjoy.
Thanks, Jeff - and congrats on Mt. Ranier!
