ISTAT Foundation
Rounding out my first
year as Foundation Chair,
I'm very pleased with our work in progress
and proud of some early accomplishments.
The Foundation remains strong financially.
ISTAT Board support is up, and our fundraising over the last year hit new highs thanks
to our many generous donors and the work
of our Fundraising Committee under the
leadership of Tom Heimsoth. Our three
Diamond Plus Rountable contributors-
Omni Air International, Diane Ballweg and
The Batchelor Foundation-alone were
responsible for $600,000 of Foundation
financial support.
Scholarships remain as our most important area of giving. There were 30 deserving
recipients this past year. Nearly half of
the scholars were from outside the U.S.,
and our global university outreach continues to grow. After more than five years
of leadership, Dana Lockhart is passing
the Scholarship Committee chair position

to Peter Huijbers. We thank Dana for all
his contributions and welcome Peter to
his new role.
In concert with the EAA, we launched
the Careers in Aviation video series,
which showcases a wide variety of aviation career opportunities for teens and
college-age students. Programs like this
will help get kids excited about aviation,
and I am looking forward to more new
ideas from Mark Dunnachie and his new
Grants Committee.
We have some great things happening in the Internship and Education area.
Damon D'Agostino and Warren Willits have
done great work energizing the internship
program. I know GECAS is looking forward
to having our own ISTAT intern, Hoi Yiu
Chan, join us in our HKG office this summer.
Warren has improved the internship site so
member companies can list their requests
for interns, and students can submit their
CVs and areas of interest.
ISTAT U continues to evolve under
Damon's leadership. Initially, this certification program will help college students
become productive members of the ISTAT

community. Program launch is planned for
next year. Look for more news and updates
throughout the year.
Julian Balaam and the Humanitarian
Committee have worked hard to identify
deserving organizations with a connection
to aviation. Julian is passionate about this
area of Foundation giving, and I know he
and the committee will be working hard
to identify more deserving recipients over
the coming year.
Over the last year, we also had a strong
focus on governance issues. We completed
two major projects: updated the Foundation
bylaws and changed the trustee election
procedures to create more connectivity to
the greater ISTAT membership. Thanks to
Mike Platt and the Governance Committee
for their good work here.
Lastly, I want to thank Ron Pietrzak
and the ISTAT staff for their professional
support throughout the year. None of this
happens without dedicated volunteers from
all corners of our industry. I am thankful
for the great group of board and committee
members who give their personal time to
support the Foundation's mission.
