Making the Most of Your

25,600 minutes. That's what
we get each year. The song
from the musical Rent asks:
"How do you measure a year?" But
I'd like to change up that question
and ask, "How do we spend those
minutes wisely?" When it comes to
the minutes and hours, days and
weeks we'll spend at work, I have a
few thoughts on how I and (hopefully) you and your team can focus
on making the most of this new year.
1. Go back to basics, and that
means life insurance. Last
year was filled with devastation-from the earthquakes in
Mexico, to hurricanes here at
home, to senseless violence
around the world. It reminds us
of what is important: our families and loved ones. And protecting those loved ones is key
to what we do in our industry.
The foundation of being financially fit is having life insurance
for the "what ifs." The producers
you work with can do all sorts of
amazing financial planning for
their clients, but if there isn't
protection in place in the form
of life insurance, the whole plan
could collapse if there is a premature death.
And circling back to our loved
ones, February is the Insure Your
Love campaign, which Life Happens
created expressly for producers so
that they would have a great, lowkey, positive way of reaching out to
clients and prospects about their
life insurance needs. I get it, talking
about life insurance-and the death
of a loved one-isn't always easy,
but trust me, this messaging makes
it much easier: Protect the ones you
love with life insurance. Life Happens has a lot of great content,
from videos to email campaigns to
social-media posts, already created
around the Insure Your Love theme,

which brings me to my next point.
2. Don't reinvent the wheel.
Again, when it comes to selling life insurance, there are
some tried and true methods
that work. One of the greatest
things that Life Happens does
is create the Real Life Stories
videos, which show how a family or business was helped by
life insurance in times of great
need. These stories, which
they have been telling for two
decades, are powerful because
they don't tell people what life
insurance is, instead they show
through storytelling what life
insurance does.
I find one story in particular very
moving. It profiles Adam Page and
his parents. It's actually not about a
