● Sales trend: U.S. deliveries fell in 2015 largely on a 100-day
shutdown of Grand Caravan output for a model changeover coming in
the spring and the end of Avenger production last year. But Challenger
set a sales record last year. Average transaction prices rose and
incentives slipped.
● Challenges: Making a redesigned Dodge Journey that looks like it
should be a Dodge and not a Chrysler people-hauler; getting some
kind of traction on Dart with refresh.
● Strategy: Dodge shed its broad lineup role in 2014 to focus on
affordable performance, with products such as the SRT Hellcat
Challenger and Charger to serve as brand halos, helping to increase
transaction prices and profits.

● Detroit debuts: Hyundai's redesigned Equus will make its auto show
debut as the Genesis G90, marking the creation of the Korean
automaker's luxury brand.
● 2016 pipeline: The redesigned Elantra compact sedan arrives in
showrooms soon, followed later this year by the G90, as well as a
redesigned version of the subcompact Accent and the
new Prius-fighting Ioniq, which will offer three
electrified drivetrain options.
● New faces: Subaru veteran Dean Evans joined
Hyundai as U.S. marketing chief in late 2015 while
Derrick Hatami returned from Nissan to oversee U.S.
sales.
● 2015 share: 4.4% (Jan.-Nov.); 4.4% (Jan.-Dec.
2014)

● Sales trend: Hyundai's U.S. sales have tracked
upward with the overall market, aided by a healthy launch of the
redesigned Tucson crossover.
● Challenges: It lacks the trucks to capitalize on cheap gasoline, and
the marketing needs work, but Hyundai has the money to fix all that.
● Strategy: Hyundai sees itself as a full-line juggernaut, with luxury cars,
green cars and commercial vehicles to satisfy any need. With a highprofile National Football League sponsorship, Hyundai is sending the
signal that it has truly arrived.
