We live in coastal Liberty County, and I wanted to share a photo of the beauty near ® Sunrise over St. Catherines Sound our Coastal Electric Cooperative in Midway. —John Henderson, via email Adopting Georgia as ‘home’ I can relate to Bryan Richardson’s story of being a Georgia transplant [see “Another kind of Yankee,” October 2012, page 30]. I too was Yankee born and bred, moving to Georgia at age 18 due to my father’s work transfer. On our ﬁrst evening here, my family ate at Carey Hilliard’s Restaurant in Savannah. What an extremely pleasant surprise—we were served sweet iced tea! When my glass was automatically reﬁlled, I knew I had died and gone to heaven! Over the next several months came the amazing introduction to a most succulent cuisine, including black-eyed peas, okra, boiled peanuts and tomato sandwiches. Fast forward three and a half decades: I have been privileged to live in and come to know many areas of Georgia. Her captivating history, vast array of natural scenery and welcoming Southern hospitality have endeared her to my heart, so much so that my youngest daughter is named after her. Had I had a choice in the matter, I would have happily put my roots down in my parents’ home state of Ohio.
