Savor The Magazine
In reading your article ("From the
Editor," Sept./Oct.) about people
defacing public property on trails, it
brought to mind a story a friend of
mine related to me. She was a
volunteer at our local Baptist Camp,
when she noticed an older woman take
out a pocket knife and begin to carve
her name on a wooden table. My
friend sat down beside her and asked

6 | BlueRidgeCountry.com

"Would it be alright if I came to your
house and carved my name on your
kitchen table?"
The woman's response was an
incredulous "WHAT?!!" My friend
responded, "If it's OK for you to carve
your name on our table, it should be
OK for me to carve my name on your
table."
In response to your request for
slogans to discourage vandalism in

public places, I would like to borrow
from my friend's idea. If it's true that "A
picture is worth a thousand words,"
then may I suggest an indignantlooking squirrel, holding a nut (with a
couple of nuts at his feet) and sitting on
a graffiti-defaced boulder, with this
slogan beneath him: "Are you NUTS? I
wouldn't do this to YOUR yard!"
Thanks for a great magazine.
-D. Arnold Moore, Old Fort, Tenn.
