volunteer spotlight Thank You, Volunteers! since 1965, volunteers have been an essential part of Central Carolina hospital. gifted with an incredible amount of experience and talent, they provide valuable services that complement the work of our hospital. Fundraising, providing scholarships, supplying essential comfort items to patients, and offering their time to our hospital in a variety of functions are just a few ways they contribute. HandCrafted Comfort providing a variety of items for patients in need, the volunteers handcraft clowns for pediatric patients and newborn baby caps. Babies born in December have an extra special gift— a Christmas stocking blanket. prayer shawls are given to patients and families who need an extra bit of comfort while toiletries and clothing may be provided to patients in our emergency department or on the nursing units. these are just some ways the volunteers give. Volunteer Brenda Garner knit 75 purple caps for each baby born in November at CCH to recognize The Period of Purple Crying. Scholarships Are Available The Florence B. Harris Scholarships are available for students in nursing and other healthcare fields, while the CCH Auxiliary Nursing Scholarship Endowment is for nurses who are attending Central Carolina Community College. A lift When You need one 14 | W i N t E R 2 0 1 2 Sometimes the walk from the parking lot can seem quite long, especially if you’re not feeling well. One key function our volunteers provide our patients and their family is transport services from the parking lot. The next time you need a lift, look for the covered golf cart, with one of our volunteers, such as Larry Aiken (pictured above), ready to assist.
