Recognizing Alzheimer’s
Next year, the first baby boomers will turn 65. And each day until 2029, another 7,900-plus boomers will celebrate their 65th birthdays. Because the prevalence of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia increases with age, the number of people in the U.S. who suffer its debilitating effects will grow. See a doctor if you recognize the following warning signs in yourself or a loved one: • Memory loss that’s disruptive to daily life D • ifficulty planning or solving problems D • ifficulty performing familiar tasks B • eing confused about the time or place H • aving trouble understanding visuals or spatial relationships H • aving problems with speaking or writing • M isplacing items or losing belongings in unusual places P • oor or decreased judgment • Withdrawal from activi ties once enjoyed • Mood or personality changes
