As the longest-running event of its kind in the industry, the upcoming DDI Forum will cover topics and discussions of some of the most pressing issues among thought leaders in the retail design community. The Forum, to be held Sept. 11-13* at The Fairfax at Embassy Row Hotel in downtown Washington, D.C., will gather together the cream of the crop from the retail design industry, store design and visual merchandising executives and principals of some of the country’s largest contract design firms. (*Sept. 11 is open to DDI’s Editorial Advisory Board members only, while Sept. 12-13 is open to the larger retail design community.) For 2009’s event, the format has been changed a bit to take full use of the word “Forum.” Peerto-peer conversation is the order of the day. The planned sessions and presentations will be thought-provoking, relevant and entertaining, geared toward interactivity and crowd participation (each session will be followed by a 30-minute interactive discussion with the audience). In addition, breakout groups and conversation discussion topics will proliferate throughout the event, during networking breaks, meal times and after-hours events. The result will be an inspirational, educational and discussion-filled content package aimed at producing an engaging, memorable event. Saturday evening will include the DDI Portfolio Awards dinner, recognizing some of the most admired and respected retailers, designers and projects in the industry. And on Sunday, an optional tour of the D.C. retail scene will offer attendees an up-close and personal look at some of the city’s hottest new retail stores.
