With hundreds of companies showcasing thousands of products and services and highlighting their capabilities, it’s a gigantic shopping mall for thousands of retail designers, store planners, architects, brand marketers and other in-store professionals. The floor is full of activity and excitement and is, without a doubt, the bustling heart of GlobalShop. If the tradeshow floor is the heart of GlobalShop, then the conference program is its soul. While the conference might not be quite as glitzy as the show floor, it serves a vital role by providing depth that adds tremendous value for those in attendance. This year in particular, the 27 conference sessions were a big draw—and for good reason. More than 1,400 industry professionals took part in the 2011 conference at GlobalShop—including 1,361 attendees and 38 speakers. There were also 48 members of the press covering the conference sessions. Paco Underhill, Chuck Luckenbill, Dominick Ponti and Jez Frampton were among the many industry luminaries present, imparting their ideas and visions to a very receptive audience. As a striking indicator of the conference’s relevance this year, the average conference attendee participated in at least three or more sessions! So, what’s the attraction? GlobalShop is the only annual event that brings together retail professionals on this scale, providing you the opportunity to learn from others in your industry that may have dealt with similar challenges you face, but in very different circumstances. It’s a chance to expand your knowledge base and a great place to network with others in your profession. And, it makes for a richer overall experience, because the takeaways on the show floor can help you implement the lessons learned in the conference. GlobalShop 2012 will be here before you know it. As you begin planning, make sure you take a good look at the conference program. You’re sure to find something of interest and leave GlobalShop with tools you can use to build a better career.
