12 | Newsworthy | Headlining DDI announces the winners of its first-ever Student Window Challenge DI Magazine announced the winners of it first-ever Student Window Challenge, presented in cooperation with Saks Fifth Avenue, on June 7 in New York. The inaugural design competition brought together 12 visual merchandising students (grouped in two-person teams) from the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) to compete in a daylong challenge, which took place inside Saks Fifth Avenue’s 49th Street windows at the Fifth Avenue flagship store in New York. After a hectic day of design—and even a visit from Tim Gunn!—everyone gathered for the After Party and Awards Presentation, where the winning team was announced. Lani Gedeon and Michael Johnston of (team No. 1) were the winning team members, taking home a onemonth mentorship with Saks Fifth Avenue’s visual staff, a $500 Saks gift card and four tickets to the “Romeo and Juliet” ballet, plus backstage passes. At the After Party, competition participants mingled with the industry’s top talents who stopped by to toast the winners and celebrate the day’s events.
