10 | From the Show Director We Love Retail E ach year, we come up with a tagline to summarize the focus for our upcoming show. It’s a theme that helps us plan and gets our minds set on what we’re trying to accomplish. It helps us concentrate on what makes each version of GlobalShop unique and helps us address the hot topics of the day. For example, our theme for the 2013 show was “RetailConnected,” because our goal was to create more opportunities for the various individuals and audiences within our show to interact and network. We addressed this goal with programs like our Retail Roundtable, GlobalShop Exchange, Brand Breakfast, Power Lunch and the Opening Night Party. According to our post-event surveys, these were well received and a valuable part of the experience at GlobalShop 2013. In some years, our taglines were very specific to the hot trends of the day. However, as we were brainstorming for GlobalShop 2014, we really wanted to boil it down to the basic truths of our show— our audience and the products, services, education and events they come to find at GlobalShop. Sure, shopper insights are important, as are mobile retailing, showrooming and social commerce. And we certainly plan on covering all of these at GlobalShop 2014 and beyond, but what’s the one thread that ties it all together? It’s retail. That’s why we go to GlobalShop. That’s why there is a GlobalShop. If you’re at GlobalShop and you’re not all about retail, then you’ve probably wandered into the wrong show. And if you love your job and your job is retail, then it only makes sense that you love retail. We do too. It’s our job, it’s what we do all year long—at the show, in this magazine and at any and all of the other events and projects we work on throughout the year. Everything we do is about retail, as I’m sure it is with you. If there’s one thing everyone in our community can agree on, it’s we love retail. So, this year, our tagline is “We Love Retail,” and you’ll see it a lot in our messaging and in our actions. It’s simple, but says it all. We Love Retail.
