As a technical professional, or even as an aspiring one, you should definitely be looking at the SIG program. SIGs offer networking and technical projects designed to enhance your technical proficiency and help NSBE stretch the boundaries of technological advancement! Our seven Special Interest Groups — Energy, Environmental, Information Technology Think Tank (ITTT), Process Improvement, Public Policy, Space, and Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) — allow you to become engaged in a plethora of technical projects, workshops and webinars in your area of interest or specialty! And if one of these SIGs does not cover your area, your Technical Excellence chair, LeAnne Dolce, is here to help you start a new SIG. Starting a SIG is restricted to NSBE technical professionals. If you answered “No” or “Not yet” to our opening question, now is a great time to get involved. At the 2012 Technical Professionals Conference, in Pittsburgh, Pa., your SIG leaders will present exciting workshops and panel discussions, such as “The Impact of Plug-In Electric Hybrid Vehicles on Electric Utilities,” sponsored by the Energy SIG; “Public Policy Forum on Blacks in the STEM Workforce,” sponsored by the Public Policy SIG; and a “Green and Sustainable Engineering” panel and engineering, science or technology degree and “make it big” in the entertainment industry! Learn more about the foundations run by rappers such as Ludacris and Wyclef Jean, organizations that are geared toward encouraging youth to pursue technology careers in entertainment. This year will also see the launch of our annual, one-day “Technophile Exposé”: our technology exposition where NSBE members and members of the Pittsburgh community can experience and learn more about cutting-edge technological advancements. Your Technical Excellence program is providing HOT content within and outside of the standard conference workshops. We aren’t all work and no play either!
