Nerayo Petros TECLEMARIAM, Ph.D. Engaged, 27 Researcher Sandia National Labs California Jim Dennis Photography A freshly minted Ph.D., Nerayo steps into the spotlight, a natural place for a man whose name means “let us see him.” His disarming good looks paired with a researcher’s detective instincts are irresistible. His work? At Sandia Labs, it’s simply “in the nation’s interest.” Nerayo is of Eritrean and Canadian heritage and recently visited Eritrea for the first time. He likens it to experiences described in Barack Obama’s memoir and the Senator’s visit to Kenya. Sorry girls…this romantic adventurer also stamped his passport in Egypt, Italy and France where he proposed at the Eiffel Tower to a lucky lady he met at a NSBE conference in 2000. Relaxing: “Don’t Touch This” brings out Nerayo’s karaoke M.C. Hammer. He enjoys photography and hometown Huskies and Seahawks football. Doing Good: Nerayo actively mentors students through NSBE Jr. and Alpha Phi Alpha. Stats: B.S. University of Washington – Seattle, chemical engineering; Ph.D. UC Berkeley, chemical engineering. NSBE Chapter: University of California – Berkeley. 6 NATIONAL SOCIETY of BLACK ENGINEERS
