Perhaps a byproduct of healthier eating
trends, brownie and dessert bar sales either
remained flat or fell across the United States
over the last 52 weeks.
Total average weekly sales per store across
the country dropped from $237 to $230. Every
region saw sales drop slightly except for the
West, which saw sales stay even.
Total contribution of brownies and dessert
bars to bakery department sales remained
at 1.9 percent nationwide. Most regions saw
contribution percentages remain flat while the
Central region dropped from 2.3 to 2.1 percent.
Mini brownies were the biggest seller in the
category with 38 percent of the sales. Iced
brownies (20 percent), un-iced brownies
(16), dessert bars (15) and specialty flavored
brownies (11) rounded out the category.

peaked around three holidays: Christmas,
Valentine's Day and Independence Day.
