Aloha
A notable mahalo to everyone who has
contributed to this issue. It took a lot of people
from different locations to provide you with
this, the last issue of the Millennium. Mahalo to
our advertisers who provide the needed $ to pay
the bills, the businesses that help us get the
magazine out, our subscribers who can afford
the $10, the paddlers who have sent us photos
and stories from around the pacific, the paddler
writers here and on the neighboring islands,
Joss for his dedication to getting "that shot"
(often placing himself in front of a charging
canoe), our proofreader, Amy, who tries to
shorten my long sentences, the printers at Trade
Publishing Company who have to deal with a
lot of blue, and the collators and mail room staff
who get the magazine out to all four corners of
the earth. Your efforts are appreciated!
Being a magazine for paddlers by paddlers,
we invite you to contribute. Perhaps a cartoon?
Bankoh/Hinano Molokai Hoe ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ 8
a poem? a subscription?
This new year will be another exciting one
for paddlers. The single and double outrigger
canoe interest and participation is growing fast.
More high school students are being introduced
to the sport with the OIA organization - and
Baywatch is exposing our sport to the world.
Perhaps one day our state sport will take precedence over high school coverage on television.
2000 is going to be the "Year of the Canoe"
with events planned to introduce
the public to Hawaii's team sport.
Maui will also continue to host
the "Festival of Canoes."
Our sport unites people of all
ages and professions. It teaches
responsibility and trust. It is also
a place where friends are made.
Mahalo to everyone
who made it happen.
