Whitehead
Women's Pairs
After the two qualifying sessions
of the Whitehead Women's Pairs,
Gail Greenberg and Laurie Vogel
started making plans for playing in
a regional event. They felt like both
their games were below average and
they never imagined they would be
playing in the final.
They just barely qualified to play
on, but they made the most of the
chance, emerging with a win by 20
matchpoints over runners-up Helen
Abbott and Polly Dunn.
The victory was Vogel's first in a
North American championship.
Greenberg has multiple wins in world
and North American competition.

They won the Whitehead Women's
Pairs: Gail Greenberg and Laurie
Vogel.

The two are business partners
- they co-own the Honors Bridge
Club in New York City. They have
been friends for nearly 20 years, and
Greenberg has been Vogel's bridge
mentor for a long time.
"I've taught a lot of people," said
Greenberg, "and the wonderful thing
about Laurie is that she isn't just
trying to win or get masterpoints.
She works very hard and tries to
improve her game."
Vogel was all smiles as she reflected on what it means to win an
NABC event - "It's fabulous."
