competitive, and when Radcliffe
bid 5, Whipple inferred that
he perhaps had an extra club and
likely shortness in spades. Still not
knowing who could make what, he
took one more bid when East pulled
West's double of 5 to 5. With
the heart finesse working, 13 tricks
were easy. Plus 1190 was good for
15 out of 17 matchpoints.
