Entertainment
As part of the Marriott Wardman
Park's renovation, the new Thurgood
Marshall Ballroom in the main part
of the hotel will be the site of the
local committee's stellar nightly
entertainment, and also the venue
for the 2009 Youth NABC, held on
the final weekend of the tournament
(July 30-Aug. 1).
Nightly entertainment, you ask?
The local committee really knows
how to entertain! There will be special receptions for the Intermediate/
Newcomer crowd. (Washington is the
home of the "I/N" Program.) Don't
miss the "Inside Washington" talk by
renowned Washington Post columnist
Bob Levey and his wife, Jane. But
the entertainment centerpiece that has
become a Washington DC tradition
is the late-night show by the wildly
popular, nationally known musical
comedy troupe The Capitol Steps.
Add tasty nightly treats to this line-up
along with the intriguing magic of
Alain Nu, chamber music, jugglers,
and piano music by well-known
bridge player and accomplished
pianist Ron Smith, and you have

the recipe for a terrific after-game

Things to Do in DC
If you've never been to Washington DC, the list of things to do is
endless. To help you narrow down
what shouldn't be missed, be sure
and sign up for one of our Morning
Tours. Complete tour information is
available on both the ACBL web site
at www.acbl.org and on the District
6 web site at www.districtsix.org.
You are encouraged to sign up for
tours in advance. This is particularly
important for the tour of the State
Department Reception Rooms,
where names of participants are
needed 45 days in advance. Contact

If you've been here before and think
you've seen it all, rest assured, you
haven't. Many museums and monuments are new or newly renovated.
The Patent Office Building, one
of the oldest federal buildings in DC,
houses the Smithsonian's National
Portrait Gallery and Smithsonian
American Art Museum. In 2006, a
six-year renovation was completed,
restoring the Greek Revival building to its original glory and making
it a centerpiece of the revitalized
downtown district. Although there
are many wonderful exhibits in this
building, the nation's only complete
