A One‑Day, Two‑Session
Event Aboard the
Royal Argosy
The bridge hosts in
Seattle have made arrangements for an event that is
unlike anything ever done
at the NABCs and which
will be the highlight of
the tournament for every
Intermediate/Newcomer
(I/N) player who participates!
On Monday, Nov. 28, everyone who
wishes to participate in the I/N Bridge
Afloat will assemble no later than
8:45 a.m. at Pier 56 on the Seattle
waterfront. (Bus transportation will
be provided from the Sheraton.) Upon
boarding the Royal Argosy, players
will enjoy a continental breakfast.
At about 9:30 a.m., the first session
of the two-session pairs event begins.
At the conclusion of the first session,
everyone will be seated for a luxurious buffet luncheon in the Mariner
Room. During lunch, the directors will
introduce the first-session winners,
and there will be an expert panel presentation reviewing and commenting
on the most interesting hands from
the morning session.
The vessel will return to dock at
Pier 56 just prior to the start of the
luncheon. Anyone who needs to disembark temporarily will be able to do
so (there is no smoking anywhere on
the vessel). If for any reason anyone
needs or wants to skip the second session, they will be able to do so.
After lunch, the second session will
begin. When it concludes, there will
be time to post the results, identify
and congratulate the winners, award
trophies, and take photos for the
Daily Bulletin. This event is part of
the official calendar of I/N events for
the Seattle NABC, and masterpoints
will be awarded accordingly.
All players will leave the vessel at
about 6:30 p.m. Bus transportation

Washington State Convention
and Trade Center.
The host hotels and room rates
are as follows:

Sheraton Seattle $129
will be available for the return trip to
the Sheraton.
Cost
The total cost for the two sessions of bridge - the cruise, catered
luncheon, expert discussion of the
morning hands, continental breakfast,
and bus transportation to and from
the Royal Argosy - is $70. This consists of entry fees of $30 for the two
sessions, plus $40 for everything else.
This spectacularly low rate is possible
through the generosity of Microsoft
founder and bridge enthusiast Bill
Gates.
Reservations
With limited capacity, players must
reserve their spots in advance. Note
that participants must have fewer
than 300 masterpoints to play in this
event.
The easiest and fastest way to make
a reservation is online. Visit the ACBL
web site at www.acbl.org and click on
the Seattle NABC logo. From there,
select the link for the Royal Argosy
bridge cruise.
Players may also register by mail.
Checks in the amount of $70, payable to "Seattle NABC 2011," may
be mailed to Seattle NABC 2011,
