Jay Cohen 1927-2011
Jay Cohen of Alexandria VA died on
July 19. Cohen, a Gold Life Master, began
directing in the early Sixties when he ran
a game for his men's club as a fundraiser.
He attended classes organized by Jerry
Machlin to train directors for the MidAtlantic Bridge Conference. He served
as president of the Washington Bridge
League 1965-1966. He retired from active
directing in the late Eighties.
Cohen worked for the federal government as a traffic engineer and transportation planner until 1985. Cohen is survived
by his wife, Grace (a Gold Life Master), three children and one
grandchild.

* Life Master

Victor Chernoff 1937-2011
Platinum Life Master Victor Chernoff,
Los Angeles CA, died on Aug. 2 of cancer.
As a non-Life Master, Chernoff won the
Eastern States (Goldman) Open Pairs in
1970. He represented District 23 in Grand
National Open Teams play in 1980, 1982,
1989 and 1997. He was frequently invited
to be one of the experts on the Problem
Solver's Panel for the monthly Southern
California Bridge News.
Chernoff was born in New York, and moved to Los Angeles
40 years ago. Prior to his retirement, he was a consulting actuary. Chernoff is survived by his wife, Barbara.
