Alzstars.

6:30 a.m. Likely the first game of

The Longest Day on the continent gets
underway at Kathie MacNab's MC
and G Bridge Studio in Halifax NS.
"One of our players, Lloyd Forward,
used to be a regular, but he hasn't been
able to play for a couple of years," says
MacNab. "We were thrilled to see him
at the early morning game. He cares for
his wife, who has Alzheimer's, and he
isn't able to get away at regular game
times."

7 a.m. The first of five games of the
day gets underway at the Bridge Club
of Atlanta. Club owner Sam Marks was
lucky to find among his flock two professional fundraisers: Helen Browdy
and Arlene Tauber. "Ace the Day"
brings in more than $26,000.

raised awareness."

11 a.m. 2013 Greater NY Bridge
Association Teacher of the Year Joe
Byrnes commences his two-hour
class about reverses at the Manhattan
Bridge Club.
12:30 p.m. Joe Sinkey and his
adorable 10-month-old granddaughter
Ella get the live auction underway at
Fred's Bridge Club in Athens GA. The
auction, games, peanut sales and generous corporate and individual contributions add up to an amazing $15,500
for the cause.

8:45 a.m. An artistic collage
of bridge players present and past
welcomes participants young and old
arriving for the first Bridge Heroes
game of the day. The Northern Virginia
Bridge Association and the Washington Bridge League partner to raise
$22,000.

1 p.m. The second Longest Day game
of the day hosted by Arizona Sun Cities
bridge clubs begins. Four clubs team up
to organize the all-day event: Sun City
DBC, Kiva West DBC, Sun City Grand
Bridge Club and the Corte Bella Bridge
Club. "We had jars filled with small
bills, hundred-dollar bills and checks,"
says Marigail Abinanti. "This was in
addition to the entry fees ($5 per person per session). A player matched the
afternoon duplicate table fees!" The
$530 contribution honored a loved one
who had passed away the day before
with Alzheimer's.

9 a.m. Doughnuts donated by a lo-

Cincinnati Bridge Association, representatives from the local Alzheimer's

end of the game, I saw one of the pros

All told, the Aces Against Alzheimers
bring in $17,000.
