Unimpeded in the bidding, Seamon
and Coren zoomed into the cold diamond slam. Spitalnick led a low heart,
and when Barlow's queen held the
trick, he switched to a low club into
dummy's tenace, obviously believing his partner was void in the suit. It
didn't matter - Seamon was always
going to take 12 tricks. The result was
plus 1370.
At the other table, there was a lot
more bidding.

San Francisco Bay area District 21 emerged on top in the Goldman Flight
A GNT. Crispin Barrere's team - Mark Moss, Robert Thomson and Sathya
Bettadapura - beat the District 11 squad: John Hinton, Ryan Schultz, Bob Lyon
and Craig Satersmoen. Behind 94 to 24 at the half, the Midwesterners withdrew
after three quarters (131-40). This was the first year for the contest using the
expanded 0-6000 (rather than 0-5000) masterpoint flighting.
