Ruth Bell Rees Pepe 1924-2015
Ruth Pepe, a Silver Life Master and longtime bridge organizer from El Paso TX, died
July 15. She was 91.
Ruth Rees was born May 24, 1924, in
Montgomery AL. She moved to El Paso in
1949 to begin a career in the jewelry business.
She married 1st Lt. Joseph Pepe in 1951.
After traveling the world as a military family, the Pepes returned to El Paso in 1968. The
couple, who began playing bridge while they
were dating, became active in the local bridge community. Ruth
became actively involved in bridge governance. She was president
of Unit 159 in El Paso for four years, and a regional representative
of District 17 for many years. Ruth was the longtime author of the
weekly bridge column published in El Paso.
She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Col. Joseph
Pepe, United States Army Retired, three children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Dick Yarington 1952-2015
Dick Yarington, a Platinum Life Master
from Seattle WA, died July 20. He was 63.
Yarington was scheduled to play at the
Chicago NABC this summer as part of the
District 19 GNT Championship Flight team
(see page 20). Following his death a few
weeks before the NABC, his teammates
made him the honorary non-playing captain
of the squad.
Yarington won hundreds of regional titles.
His best finish in an NABC event was second in the Wernher
Open Pairs in 1996 playing with Jackie Buroker.
Longtime bridge partner Kenny Scholes said, "Dick was an icon
on the Seattle bridge scene. He was loved by everybody for his wit,
great sense of humor and kindness."
Teammate Dan Jacob remembered Yarington as someone who
liked to visit local cultural spots on his days off at bridge tournaments.
"Dick loved life with all the good things that it offers," Jacob said.
Yarington is survived by his devoted friend of 20 years, Jackie
Buroker, and his two sisters, Elizabeth and Mary, as well as three
nephews and one niece.
