Jim Elliott 1951-2019

Jim Elliott of Portland OR and Berlin,
Germany, died March 27, in Palm Springs
CA. Jim was one of the leading players of
the Pacific Northwest over a period of more
than 30 years. Among his many bridge accomplishments, he represented District 20
in the Championship Flight of the Grand
National Teams in 2017 and 2018, reaching the national semifinals in 2017. In addition, he was a frequent
District 20 North American Pairs winner and a top-10 finisher in
many NABC events, including second in the 1992 Silodor Open
Pairs. He also enjoyed many bridge successes in Europe, where
he lived about half the year with his husband, Frank Teschen. Jim
and Frank enjoyed hosting their friends in Berlin.
Jim received his undergraduate degree from Princeton and
his graduate degree from the University of Wisconsin. He enjoyed a successful career at Intel Corporation before taking
early retirement. Jim was an avid biker, world traveler, polyglot,
deep sea diver and excellent cook, and worked diligently with
the Human Rights Campaign. He was well known as a creative
bridge player and bidding theorist, and almost always had a
smile on his face. He will be greatly missed by his many friends
both inside and outside the bridge community.
