ACBL Board of Directors - Summer 2021 Meeting
These are highlights of actions taken by the ACBL Board of Directors at meetings held via video conference July 14-16
and at special meetings in August.
Appointments
Online Ethical Oversight Committee: Harold Bickham,
David Caprera, Phil Clayton, Bob Glasson, and Chris Moll
were appointed to three-year terms through the Summer
2024 NABC.
The in-house counsel was appointed as the ACBL's
corporate secretary.
Decisions
The board:
* Following a discussion of the transition back to face-toface
bridge and the visitor policy for virtual clubs, established
three strategic goals for management during
the transition period:
* Support brick-and-mortar clubs.
* Provide bridge players with a place to play.
* Enforce the policies that have been put into place, the
visitor policy in particular.
* Updated policy on mask requirements to state that vaccinated
individuals may be required to wear masks if it
is recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention, Health Canada, or the Mexico Ministry of
Health. Tournament sponsors are free to impose more
stringent requirements than ACBL policy.
* Removed from the codification all references to fees
and charges, empowering management to set prices for
membership dues, sanction fees, entry fees, etc.
* Amended the codification sections pertaining to Board
proceedings to remove outdated information.
* Amended the codification sections pertaining to Board
expenses.
* Amended the codification sections pertaining to regional
and district director responsibilities.
* Amended the general conditions of contest in the codification.
*
Amended the codification sections pertaining to North
American Pairs travel subsidies.
* Amended the codification to clarify hotel accommodations
for volunteers and honorees during NABCs.
* Removed the NABC financial plan from the codification.
*
Approved the second reading of bylaws changes pertaining
to and requested by the Board of Governors.
* Approved negotiated resolutions in disciplinary cases.
* Revised the code of disciplinary regulations.
* Assigned to the Finance Committee the task of considering
whether or not the ACBL should reimburse
districts and/or units for losses due to tournament
cancellations.
