What's the most
significant challenge
facing women in
leadership today?
Overcoming imposter syndrome,
a psychological phenomenon that
causes people to doubt their abilities
even when they have evidence of
success. This fear is particularly
prevalent among women and driven
primarily because of self-doubt and
the belief that success is due to things
other than their skill level or hard
work. It is important to experience
mentorship and coaching that
specifically target the development of
self-confidence and assertiveness. By
pairing aspiring female leaders with
experienced mentors, organizations
can provide a supportive environment
where women can share experiences,
receive constructive feedback and
learn to recognize
their value.

as President of WICT's Rocky
Mountain Chapter, Formica is
a devoted coach and mentor
who has helped numerous women (and men) advance
in the industry. A nurturer and cancer survivor
who uses her own life experiences to empathize and
connect with others, Formica volunteers with the
Susan G. Komen grant committee and is an ambassador
for the Ford Warriors in Pink program.
Shannon Atkinson

Charter Communications
After more than two decades in several leadership
roles throughout the organization-most recently as
Regional Vice President of the West Division, Charter's
largest-Atkinson was promoted to oversee the
company's West, Northwest, Midwest and Great Lakes
Regions in January. On her watch, those teams have
improved key performance indicators and employee
scorecard metrics, as she has guided the four regions
though service enhancements including the recent
launch of Spectrum's Customer Commitment, multiple
extreme weather events, several symmetrical and
multigigabit speeds launches and rural expansion
initiatives, bringing gigabit broadband to new homes
and businesses.

Each woman's journey is so uniquely
riddled with personal landmines. I
do believe that in general women
have been told that to be successful
they need to emulate their male
counterparts. Adopting male
leadership styles over embracing
authentic female traits hurts female
leaders by forcing them into roles
that don't align with their natural
strengths and leadership styles. When
women embrace their own leadership
traits-such as empathy, collaboration
and inclusivity-they often find more
success in building strong teams and
fostering innovation.
