More of the Most Powerful Women in Cable 2014
Stephanie McMahon
Chief Brand Officer
WWE
" You will be successful
in whatever line of work
you chose if you are passionate
about what you
do. " So says McMahon,
who lives out her words of wisdom at WWE, where
she leads efforts to enhance its brand reputation to
advertisers, media, business partners and investors.
Already, WWE boasts more than 360 million fans
through its global social media nets, making it one
of the most followed brands in the world. McMahon
is also a strong proponent of prosocial communitybuilding,
serving as the primary spokesperson for
the company's Be A STAR anti-bullying program.
Mary Meduski
EVP & CFO
Suddenlink
A skilled corporate strategist,
Suddenlink veteran
Meduski also has served
on the WICT National
Board of Directors for
many years and now chairs the organization. Under
her leadership, WICT reached record membership
levels, exceeded its fi nancial goals and expanded
overseas with the launch of a U.K.-based chapter
this year. " Cable companies should participate in and
implement the recommendations of the WICT par
initiative, " she says. " This is particularly critical today
since, based on current data, we forecast a decline
in the number of female managers-and-above over
the next fi ve years. "
Lisa Meier
Group VP, Media
Time Warner Cable
Following the launch of
TWC TV Ads Everywhere
(a multiscreen solution
offering live ad insertion
capabilities), Meier is
now turning her attention to improving targeting
across all screens, planning tools and data. Outside
of work, she spends time volunteering for Hollywood's
Habitat for Humanity. That's when she's not
on the golf course or on a sailing race course. " I'm
personally energized by people and competition, "
she says.
Courtney Menzel
SVP, Domestic
Distribution
Discovery
Communications
Menzel offered one of
our favorite pieces of
advice for maintaining a
personal-professional balance: " Marry someone in the
business... You can, for example, go to NCTA together. "
Menzel spearheads Discovery's multiplatform marketing
and renewal strategies for the company's distributor
agreements. By aligning top programming properties
with distributors' business goals, Discovery now creates
custom content, events, and media stunts that support
Discovery's distribution partners in an expanded way.
Robyn Miller
SVP, Marketing
Tennis Channel
With Tennis Channel's
launch of its TV Everywhere
app, Miller leads
the charge in spreading
the word. The results
speak for themselves: In one year, 75 percent of the
network's subscriber base can access TV Everywhere
through the app, and Tennis Channel is in talks with
other operators to get all viewers access. She's also
worked to form cross-promotional partnerships between
the network and companies like AccuWeather
and ClearVision Airport Network. " Without question the
rapidly changing media landscape is our industry's
biggest story right now, " she says.

Jennifer Mirgorod
EVP, Brand
Distribution
Turner Network
Sales
Mirgorod oversees
the affi liate marketing
department as well as
Turner Private Networks, a subsidiary of Turner
Broadcasting. She has worked to close multiple longterm
multiplatform carriage deals and is involved in
a number of additional contract negotiations with
other distribution partners. To help decompress after
a long day on the job, Mirgorod doesn't immediately
check emails after coming home each night. Not for
" at least that fi rst 90 minutes, " she says.
Heather Moran
EVP, Programming &
Strategy
National Geographic
Channel
Despite being busy overseeing
Nat Geo's entire
programming strategy,
Moran still fi nds time to give at least two informational
interviews a week. She had a tough time
herself breaking into the TV industry and is forever
grateful to Steve Cheskin, then-SVP programming
at TLC, for her fi rst informational interview. And she
does love TV. When she's not in the offi ce, you'll
most likely fi nd her on the couch with her husband
and kids watching TV in their PJs.
Tricia Melton
SVP, Entertainment
Marketing &
Branding
TBS, TNT & Turner
Classic Movies
Melton has segued
Turner's marketing
strategy to a " social by design " business that connects
viewers to the shows they love. She's recently overseen
campaigns for several of TNT's original series, helping
the network chart more Top 10 shows in 2013 than any
other network. Accolades include TNT winning a Cannes
Gold Lion honoring a " Ewing Oil " promotion touting
the season premiere of " Dallas. " For the promotion,
TNT took over a gas station in Manhattan, rebranded it
Ewing Oil and slashed prices at the pump. Now that's
something that'll get consumers to take notice.
Christina Miller
SVP, Programming,
Marketing &
Business Strategy,
Turner Sports;
SVP & GM,
NBA Digital
Miller covers a lot of
ground, ranging from oversight of the programming,
marketing and business strategy for Turner Sports to
managing day-to-day operations of NBA Digital and
its broad multimedia properties including NBA TV,
NBA.com and NBA Mobile. Her work with the 2014
NCAA Final Four and 2014 NCAA Division I Men's
Basketball National Semifi nals on TBS, TNT & truTV
paid off in spades, delivering the two most-watched
college basketball telecasts in cable television
history.
