Innovative redesign: BEUMER Group introduces
a modular system for its palletizers
Rethinking the Machine
T
he BEUMER Group has completely redesigned and overhauled
its paletpac range of robust palletizers. The modular machines
now have identical or similar components and modules and - wherever
possible - are based on the same design. The total number
of components has been reduced and faster deliveries are possible.
If replacement parts are later needed, this will also go faster.
BEUMER configures the modules according to each customer's requirements,
tests them in-house and installs them on the customer's
premises, saving time and money.
The new model range not only makes configuration easier, but it
also simplifies installation. Previously, it was necessary to use forklifts
with a capacity of up to eight tons. Now a capacity of five tons
is sufficient. The modules are designed so that they can be picked
up from two different sides. This simplifies assembly in confined
spaces.
BEUMER has redesigned all the modules in its paletpac series in
terms of function and utility. It has optimized the motors and drives
in the belts and streamlined the design at transfer points, making
transport processes much gentler. The size of the assemblies has
also been modified for greater efficiency, boosting the performance
of certain modules.
The new BEUMER paletpac has been equipped with a larger deposit
table. With maximum layer dimensions of 1,500 x 1,300 millimeters,
it can accept bags
filled with bulk materials on
euro pallets or pallets with
other formats.

is used in all BEUMER paletpac

big adjustments to the modules.

improved its footprint. The control cabinet bays have a standard
configuration, but a space-saving offset arrangement is also possible
if required by the customer. The enclosure for the lifting gear
also saves space. The Human Machine Interface (HMI) is located on
the maintenance platform at the layer preparation level. If the operator
needs to adjust, he or she can see the whole machine at once.
Additional control units, for example in the lifting gear, can optionally
be installed for even greater convenience.

Simple and efficient solidification of base ingredients
for the cosmetic industry
he global cosmetic and personal care industry
- estimated to be worth in excess of $500 billion
a year - is built on beauty. From nail varnish

to night creams, this is a market that sells glossy hair, glowing skin
and glamorous good looks.
The ingredients used to create these products however, are
more mundane. Sun tan lotions contain compounds derived from
fatty acids. Lanolin, a natural wax obtained from sheep's wool, is
used in eye liner and lipstick. Bees wax is found in hand lotions,
hair products and lip balm. Other commonly used materials include
fatty alcohols, waxes, organic compounds, pigments, resins and
surfactants.
All the examples above share one thing in common: the base
ingredients are processed on IPCO solidification systems. Easy
transport, storage, handling and dosability of these ingredients is
key and this is achieved by converting them into consistently sized,
free-flowing beads using IPCO's Rotoform technology.
Rotoform models are available to solidify low and high viscous
melts (up to 40 000 mPas) at temperatures up to 300 °C. The range
includes systems for batch processing of between 10-20 kg/hr (the
cosmetics industry often uses materials in small quantities) and
models capable of handling 100-500 kg/hr.
The process is simple but extremely efficient. The product is delivered
to the system in melt form. The Rotoform itself consists of a
heated cylindrical stator and a perforated rotating shell that turns
concentrically around the stator. Precisely metered drops of the
product are deposited across the whole operating width of a continuously
running stainless steel cooling belt.
The speed of the Rotoform is synchronized with the belt to allow
a gentle deposition of the liquid droplets onto the moving belt without
deformation. Heat released during cooling and solidification is
transferred via the steel belt to cooling water sprayed underneath.
The Rotoform process converts the melt into solid beads of a
defined and consistent size, a form that is free flowing and ideal for
handling, storage, dosing and blending.
The Rotoform process is inherently clean and hygienic. Easy
access to all key areas simplifies cleaning and most major components
are stainless steel by default. IPCO's experience of developing
Rotoform systems for specific applications has enabled the
development of solutions in full compliance with GMP guidelines.
