DJ level detectors (photo) provide
high-, mid- or low-point level measurement
of bulk solids materials,
ranging from low-density flakes and
powders to pellets and heavy granular
materials. DJ detectors require
no adjustments and have no moving
parts, gaskets or seals to deteriorate.
They provide dependable operation
in dusty environments in addition
to vessels, storage bins or hoppers
equipped with vibrators. Specialized
units are available for temperatures
exceeding 300°F. All level detectors
arrive ready for installation - no field
calibration is required. The separate
control unit permits easy setup
at any convenient location. The DJ
is mounted through a ¾-in. halfcoupling
at the point of desired level

totes or bins individually. The bed of
the unit's hydraulically-tipped housing
can accommodate containers
from 37 to 44 in. in height, having
an individual or combined footprint
of up to 6 ft by 8 ft. Typical applications
for multiple containers include
simultaneous dumping of four 55-gal
drums, or four boxes, each having
a footprint from 36 to 48 in. Pallets
weighing up to 5,000 lb are forkliftloaded
into the three-sided unit and
secured, after which a grate is lowered
onto the container(s) to prevent
shifting. The lifting assembly is raised
to a height of 77 in. and tipped hydraulically,
causing material to slide
through a smooth, three-sided chute
into receiving vessels. Twin hydraulic
cylinders pivot the platform-chute
assembly to discharge angles of 45
or 60 deg beyond horizontal, including
a motion-dampening feature at
the termination of container rotation.

(photo) achieves uniform blends
of dry bulk solids in 15 to 30 min.,
with little or no product degradation.
Suitable for laboratory testing, pilot
plants or low-volume blending of dry
powders and granular materials, the
unit delivers equal homogeneity at fill
volumes from 25 to 100% of rated
capacity. Smooth internal surfaces
free of baffles, shafts and bearings
allow complete discharge through a
6-in. hand-wheel-operated butterfly
valve, eliminating material waste.
Access to internal surfaces through
the discharge valve and twin doors
at the ends of the inclined cylinders
permits thorough sanitizing in minutes,
preventing cross contamination.
Driven by a 1-hp wash-down
motor, the Vee Cone chamber rotates
at up to 30 rpm, imparting a
tumbling action that is more gentle
and consumes less energy than ribbon
blenders and other agitated
machines in which blades, paddles
or plows are forced through stationary
material, the company says. -
