Eductor system improves Mixing/Blending processes.
T
here are many processes in chemical production and processing
that require the addition and then mixing of solids into a
liquid. The most traditional way of doing this is to mechanically
convey and meter the dry materials directly into a vessel and then
mechanically agitate and mix the contents of the vessel. Hapman's
Solidquid is often a significantly more efficient, lower maintenance
and typically lower cost option in many applications.
The heart of the Hapman Solidquid is an eductor, which is a
specially designed constricting orifice with no moving parts. The
Solidquid uses the Venturi Effect which occurs when a gas or liquid
at high pressure and low-velocity moves through a specially designed
transition becoming a low pressure high-velocity stream. A
vacuum is created at the high to low pressure transition point where
gases, liquids or solids can be introduced for transport. Hapman
always uses an integrated washdown bowl at the solids feed
point that significantly improves suction capacity and reduces the
amount of air entrainment. The washdown bowl also ensures solids
do not cake and build up at the inlet point.
Eductors still utilize blowers, fans and pumps to move the fluid,
but they dramatically simplify systems where material is already
being transferred by creating a suction inlet point for introduction
of additional materials. Requiring only a motive or driving fluid to
operate, they have no moving parts that results in low ongoing
maintenance or troubleshooting. They can be used to capture and
convey gases, liquids or solids. Hapman utilizes them specifically
for solids additions to liquids up to 20% solution, but 10% solids
solution is more typical.
Eductors are used in industries such as wastewater treatment,
chemical processing and food production. They prevent product
clumping and contamination, and they improve mixing speed and
efficiency. Eductor systems also avoid problems like plugged filters
and dusting in pneumatic conveying. Hapman has discovered they
are very effective for handling hazardous dusts by introducing them
to a downstream fluid for conveyance as early as possible.
Hapman has found eductors are still underutilized in ideal applications
like mixing and blending chemicals or specialty beverage
products.

feeding controls to ensure the perfect mixture every time. Most importantly,
