American Gas Association (AGA; www.aga.org)
An ANSI-accredited standards developer, AGA develops and published standards for the acceptable performance of gas meters. AGA has standards for three types
of meters: gas-displacement meters (B109.1), diaphragm-type gas-displacement meters (B109.2) and rotary-type gas-displacement meters (B109.3). There is also
an AGA standard for one regulator, the non-pilot loaded regulator (B109.4)
American Petroleum Institute (API; www.api.org)
An ANSI-accredited standards developer, API is both an advocate and standards developer for the petroleum industry. API develops and publishes standards for piping,
pressure equipment, pressure components, quality control and for many other aspects of CPI facilities.
American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME; www.asme.org)
An ANSI-accredited standards developer, ASME is the developer and publisher of the Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, the B31 piping codes, the BPE Standard,
many component standards, and many other standards and codes unrelated to piping. ASME also publishes books related to CPI facility design, as well as companion
guides to its many codes and standards.
ASTM International (www.astm.org)
An ANSI-accredited standards developer, ASTM develops and publishes standards for materials and their testing. ASTM is one of the few organizations that is certified
as self-accrediting, referred to as " Auditor Designated " by ANSI. This type of ANSI designation is granted only to those organizations that are so prolific in the
development, revision, and publication of its many standards that it has to be audited in a different manner.
British Standards Institute (BSI; www.bsigroup.com)
Accredited by ANSI-ASQ, CNAS, JAP, RvA, UK AS and other accreditation organizations, BSI develops and publishes a wide and diverse range of standards, including
a number of standards that focus on pipe welding requirements and procedures.
Compressed Gas Association (CGA; www.cganet.com)
An ANSI-accredited standards developer, CGA develops and publishes standards for the safe handling of compressed gases through piping and equipment, including
design concepts intended to integrate a safe work environment into facility design.
European Hygienic Engineering and Design Group (EHEDG; www.ehedg.org)
EHEDG is a consolidated group of equipment manufacturers, food processors and packagers, research institutes and public health representatives that, among
other things, develop and publish guidelines aimed at the proper design and construction of food processing and packaging facilities with takeaways for other highpurity
related industries.
International Organization for Standardization (ISO; www.iso.org)
ISO is an international organization that develops and publishes a wide range of standards, including those for creating an in-house quality management system
(QMS) program for companies. Such QMS programs are used as a means to certify companies, not for the product they might manufacture, but in the way the manufacturing
process is managed. Certification itself is not performed by ISO, but is instead performed and audited by a third-party.
International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers (ISPE; www.ispe.org)
ISPE is an organization whose membership is made up of pharmaceutical industry professionals who invest companies a great deal of time, effort and knowledge
into the creation of, among other things, consensus guidelines on the design, construction and operation of pharmaceutical facilities.
NACE International (www.nace.org)
NACE is an internationally accepted organization that develops and publishes standards on corrosion that benefit the engineer in the process of developing material
specifications with regard to chemical and environmental corrosion issues.
National Fire Protection Association (NFPA; www.nfpa.org)
An ANSI-accredited standards developer with over 300 codes and standards in its catalog. These are codes and standards that are written around the intent to prevent
fire, electrical and other workplace hazards.
Pressure Equipment Directive (PED; http://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?qid=1474018784663&uri=CELEX:32014L0068)
PED is a Directive of the European Community that establishes an agreed-to standard for the design and fabrication of pressure equipment, including steam boilers,
pressure vessels, piping, valves and other components and prefabricated assemblies. This is a combination of the ASME boiler code, pressure vessel code, B31.1,
B31.3 and B31.9 rolled up into one Directive.
Tubular Exchanger Manufacturers Association, Inc. (TEMA; www.tema.org)
TEMA is a trade association of shell-and-tube heat exchanger manufacturers. It is currently in the 9th edition of the TEMA Standards on shell-and-tube heat exchangers.
