BP and Brightmark evaluating
plastic-waste renewal plants in Europe
September 15, 2021 - BP plc (London;
www.bp.com) and Brightmark LLC (San
Francisco, Calif.; www.brightmark.com) signed
a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to
jointly evaluate development of plastic-waste
renewal plants in Germany, the Netherlands
and Belgium. Each prospective plant could
divert up to 400,000 metric tons per year
(m.t./yr) of waste plastic from disposal to create
sustainable products.
Shell and BlueAlp to build two recycledfeedstock
plants in the Netherlands
September 9, 2021 - Shell Ventures B.V. (The
Hague, the Netherlands; www.shell.com) and
BlueAlp Holding B.V. (www.bluealp.nl) announced
a strategic partnership to build two new wasteconversion
units in the Netherlands, which will
convert more than 30,000 m.t./yr of plastic
waste into pyrolysis oil. The units are planned
to be operational in 2023 and will supply their
pyrolysis oil as feedstock to Shell's Moerdijk and
Rhineland facilities.
CP Kelco invests $50 million to
build new citrus-fiber production line
September 9, 2021 - CP Kelco (Atlanta, Ga.;
www.cpkelco.com) is investing more than $50
million to add a second citrus-fiber production
line to the company's facility in Matão, Brazil,
increasing total capacity to approximately
5,000 m.t./yr. The new production line is
expected to be complete in 2023.
Gevo to build renewable-fuels
pilot plant in Minnesota
September 8, 2021 - Gevo, Inc. (Englewood,
Colo.; www.gevo.com) plans to install an
alcohol-to-hydrocarbon process pilot unit at
its facility located in Luverne, Minn. The pilot
unit is being designed to produce sustainable
aviation fuel, renewable premium gasoline and
other renewable fuel and chemical products.
The installation is estimated to begin in the
third quarter of 2022 with startup expected
in late 2022.

Linde to supply gas to semiconductor
manufacturing plant in Phoenix
September 8, 2021 - Linde plc (Guildford, U.K.;
www.linde.com) will build, own and operate
a complex of onsite plants to supply ultrahigh-purity
nitrogen, oxygen and argon to a
new semiconductor manufacturing facility in
Phoenix, Ariz. Linde's total investment will be
approximately $600 million. The first plants
and supporting infrastructure are due to start
up in the second half of 2022.
Evonik to construct new plant for
hollow-fiber membranes in Austria
September 7, 2021 - Evonik Industries
AG (Essen, Germany; www.evonik.com) is
building a new hollow-fiber spinning plant for the
production of gas-separation membranes at its
site in Schörfling am Attersee, Austria. These
membranes are used with biogas, nitrogen,
hydrogen and natural gas. The new plant is
scheduled to come onstream in early 2023.
Kemira to build third alkenyl succinic
anhydride production line in China
September 7, 2021 - Kemira Oyj (Helsinki,
Finland; www.kemira.com) will construct
a third production line for alkenyl succinic
anhydride (ASA) at its site in Nanjing, China.
This significant ramp-up of ASA production
capacity will take place during 2022 and 2023.
Huntsman increases polyurethane
catalyst and specialty amine capacity
September 2, 2021 - The Performance Products
division of Huntsman Corp. (The Woodlands,
Tex.; www.huntsman.com) plans to further
expand its manufacturing facility in Petfurdo,
Hungary, to meet the growing demand for
polyurethane catalysts and specialty amines.
This investment project is anticipated to be
completed by mid-2023.
Eneos to increase polyethylene
production capacity
September 1, 2021 Eneos Corp. (Tokyo, Japan;
www.eneos.com) announced plans to expand
production capacity of polyethylene (PE) by
approximately 30,000 m.t./yr at its Kawasaki
plant. This expansion addresses PE demand for
insulation applications on extra-high-voltage and
high-voltage power cables. The facility is scheduled
to be completed in July 2023 and commence
commercial operation in December 2023.
Orion Engineered Carbons to construct
new carbon-black plant in China
August 31, 2021 - Orion Engineered Carbons
S.A. (Luxembourg; www.orioncarbons.com)
is constructing its second plant in China for
specialty and high-performance carbon black.
With a targeted initial production capacity of
65,000 to 70,000 m.t./yr, Orion's new facility
in Huaibei is expected to be completed in late
2022 and to begin operating in 2023.
Nouryon to build new ethyl hydroxyethyl
cellulose plant in Southeast Asia
August 31, 2021 - Nouryon (Amsterdam, the
Netherlands; www.nouryon.com) plans to build
a new production facility for ethyl hydroxyethyl
cellulose (EHEC) in Southeast Asia. The new
plant is slated to produce around 15,000 to
