changed the status of virtual staged
rooms to real ORs and notified the surgeon
scheduler by phone about the
placement of the case. In the view of
the nursing team, this process was
working for them just fine.
By following our proven change
management process, we were able to
move forward and roll out our platform.
We communicated the urgency for a
new solution as expressed by the new
executive leadership, making sure that
all stakeholders were on board and involved.
We built awareness of the new
solution through a multichannel campaign
that included videos, emails, and
poster displays throughout the facility.
And we listened to feedback from stakeholders,
adapting to unexpected outcomes
along the way.
The solution, which was rolled out
throughout the hospital and to the rest
of the healthcare system, quickly became
the cornerstone for data and automated
workflows for block scheduling
throughout the entire system. A true
example of the coming together of people,
process, and technology to improve
communication, collaboration, and patient
care, this installation was a true
game changer for the health system.
According to the executive team that
initiated the implementation, our solution
provided the system with the ability
to capture OR time that would have
previously gone unused. It also provided
their surgeons with visibility on OR availability
they needed across the system.
AI solutions are changing the way
perioperative teams across the country
are going about the business of managing
OR utilization. But getting there
nearly always requires a change of
mindset and behavior among all stakeholders.
