E = Emotional bullies: " They are unable
to feel empathy, and they use coercion, "

R = Repeaters: " These are people
who have been bullying for years, " she
said. " They exaggerate their accomplishments.
And too often, this type of
bully becomes the boss. "
S = Sociopaths: " These people are
very charming and step on people to advance, "
she said. " Many people associate
sociopaths with the financial collapse
in America in 2008, " she added.
Bartlein offered these tips for creating
a just culture:

score and see themselves as victims, "
Bartlein said. " They use guilt to manipulate
people, and they prey on people's
sympathy and goodwill. "
C = C-Gull managers: " They insist
their employees work long hours, and
they pit employees against one another.
They put people down, spread rumors,
and use disrespectful language. "
K = Know-it-alls: " These people want
to be the center of attention. They are
experts in deception. The incidence of
narcissistic personalities is three times

* model kindness and compassion
* encourage and mentor others
* have strict bullying and workplace
violence policies
* conduct mandatory training
* immediately intervene when incivility
is reported
* become culturally aware; understand
the people you work with and the
communities you serve.
Bartlein then asked attendees to
note one behavior they could change to
make a positive difference in their lives,
and ask a colleague for suggestions
about how to achieve this change. This
" feed forward " approach is a good way
to practice giving and receiving feedback,
an essential competency of good
leadership.
