his issue of OR Manager draws
on content presented at both
the 2021 OR Business Management
and OR Manager Conferences.
After more than a year, the OR Manager
community came together to network,
learn, and share knowledge as well as
celebrate each other's efforts from
such a challenging year.

The two conferences were held backto-back;
OR Business Management
Conference took place in San Diego in
September, and OR Manager Conference
was in Chicago in October. Huge
kudos to the conference staff and planning
committees, who pulled off two
successful shows so closely together
and are now hard at work on the 2022
OR Business Management Conference,
taking place in San Antonio in February.
What struck me is how different, yet
complementary, the two conferences
are. Together, they offer comprehensive
education and networking opportunities
for OR business and nurse leaders. For
first-time attendees such as myself as
well as future prospective attendees,
here is a quick breakdown.
OR Business Management Conference
is where perioperative leaders,
managers, and administrators come
together to talk through the trends,
wins, and challenges they are facing.
The goal of this event is to form
connections; seek collaboration; and
most importantly, learn the best practices
that will push the attendees
to do their jobs more efficiently. The
" talk shop " I witnessed stayed with
me for the collaborative spirit and
earnest desire to help one another work
smarter.
OR Manager Conference, on the
other hand, is big. Its best quality,
perhaps indicative of it being a more
traditional trade show, is how open and
welcoming the event felt.This is where
aspiring and experienced OR leaders
alike will find resources relevant to all
aspects of their roles. The breadth of
content that was covered, from the
exhibit hall to the keynotes to the breakout
sessions, was massive at the same
time that it was targeted. I was particularly
impressed by the quality of the
conversations and the access to the
material covered by the PACU and ASC
Summits, which were held concurrently.
