Both conferences featured a panel
hosted by Whitman Partners on the
crucial role diversity should play on
hiring, training, and retention efforts
when staffing the OR. A truly diverse
workforce is one that mirrors the community
that workforce serves, and when
that representation is done right, patient
engagement, satisfaction, and
safety take focus. Cynthia Saver, MS,
RN, a long-term OR Manager writer,
expands on this diversity topic in Part
1 of a two-part series on building a
diverse workforce (cover story, continued

Another OR Manager Conference
presenter, Beverly Kirchner, BSN,
RN, CNOR, CNAMB, gave one of the
most complex talks of the event when
she covered the developing story surrounding
the COVID-19 vaccine mandate
and its effect on the healthcare

For instance, the Wall Street Journal
recently reported on how the mandate
is fairing against various legal challenges.
Soon after, President Joe Biden
released the official rule of the federal
mandate, which was almost immediately
followed by a federal appeals court
staying the rule for private companies.
On November 8, the US borders opened
and non-US citizens can now enter
the country with proof of vaccination
and a negative COVID-19 test. We will
undoubtedly see more changes before
the end of the year.
