at Harvard Business School in
Boston, Massachusetts, Dr Gallani investigates
incentive design and performance
measurement within management
control systems, including motivators
and demotivators for `rank`-and-file
workers. Bringing an economic perspective
to the application of value-based
care can help better align key players
and accelerate the transition, she says.

Solving the supply chain equation takes
shared perspective, ingenuity
quipment and supplies remain
a top cost in every healthcare
organization, and that is not
going to change any time soon. What
is changing is how organizations are
finding creative ways to right-size inventory
without having to choose between
cost and quality. This is a balancing
act to be sure-especially with outside
influences like supply shortages derailing
the best-laid plans-but OR, sterile
processing, and supply chain leaders
throughout the country are working together
to find solutions.

This is what Michael Schiller, FAHRMM,
CMRP, is observing from his vantage
point as executive director of the
Association for Health Care Resource &
Materials Management (AHRMM) of the
American Hospital Association (AHA), a
role that offers regular insight into strategies
employed by healthcare organizations,
suppliers, technology leaders and
frontline staff.
Having made supply chain decisions
himself in previous roles, Schiller also
speaks through the lens of experience.
Overall, his perspective gives him a
unique opportunity to view big ideas
on supply management with a practical
eye-and he is ready to share
his observations and ideas on supply
management improvements with OR
