there's a body of evidence they generally
don't do as well with bypass. "
Gender disparities in healthcare extend
beyond the cardiovascular space.
They also extend beyond the patient.
For female surgeons, challenges range
from pay gaps that grow as their careers
advance to difficulties with maneuvering
surgical instruments designed
for men by men.
The good news is that awareness
of these issues seems to be growing,
and awareness is the first step
toward action, says Nicole Fox, MD,

Developing staff is a
multifaceted responsibility

educational resources.
Regular evaluation is
critical to formulating
and tracking progress toward
goals for each employee.
Meeting goals is likely to require
a combination of coaching and mentoring;
leaders must know the difference
and when to apply either approach.
