Within-Group Differences in Black Students' Housing Experience living situation had on their well-being and academic success. The PHI scale is a mean score calculated from response options ranging from 1 (strong negative impact) to 5 (strong positive impact). Lastly, the Financial Stress (FS) scale consisted of five items that asked students how frequently they had to worry about various expenses, academic purchases, and food security. The FS scale is a mean score calculated from response options ranging from 1 (never) to 4 (very often). The seniors included in this study received a slightly different item set related to their housing experiences, and therefore only scores on the BAS and FS scales are included in their analyses. Table 1 includes reliability information for each scale.
