Improving Praxis in Residence Life
more diverse group of participants, including staff in other types of positions such as
maintenance and custodial staff; these studies could also explore residence life staff's
experiences after they have had an opportunity to reflect more deeply on this unique
time period. Second, differences in support needs and coping strategies should be
explored by position type and level. Third, some of the challenges our participants
encountered could be examined further. For example, studies could explore different
communication structures to better understand how to improve the speed and transparency
of communication at departmental and institutional levels, as well as focusing
on effective ways to reduce staff workloads. Fourth, our findings point to the benefits of
expanding the use of technology, which can be utilized to improve common residence
life practices and procedures as well as to compare the benefits of virtual versus in-person
engagement. In general, as institutions and residence life departments weather
the " great resignation " (Long & Clement, 2021; Stebleton & Buford, 2021), scholarship
on residence life staff's experiences can provide valuable guidance on how to improve
job satisfaction and increase the retention of residence life staff at all levels. 
