2 - 8 March Sephardic Music Festival, Los Angeles, CA. The festival will continue SMF's cutting-edge
reputation for presenting the best in contemporary
Sephardic Jewish music from across the globe. Founded by American-Israeli producer Diwon, the SMF is the
only Jewish music festival in the United States to focus
exclusively on Sephardic music and culture and showcase the latest Mizrahi, Yemenite, and Ladino artists
from around the world. The festival offers a platform
for performers of traditional Sephardic folk music and
innovators who fuse traditional Sephardic rhythms,
melodies, and motifs with modern musical styles. With

7 - 9 March Viola da Gamba Society of America,
Young Players Weekend, Charlton, MA. This lowcost retreat is tailored for students and young professionals of all musical ability levels, beginner through
pre-professional. For only $125, you will develop your
viol playing with guidance from some of the nation's
leaders in viol pedagogy and performance. Location:
Prindle Pond Conference Center in Charlton, MA, one
hour from Boston and Hartford, and three hours from
New York City. Prindle Pond Conference Center offers
ample meeting areas and breakout spaces, a gymnasium, and numerous hiking trails. The dining hall specializes in healthy and delicious home-cooked meals.

8 March Phoenix Spring Recorder Workshop
with the Flanders Recorder Quartet, Phoenix,
AZ. The Flanders Recorder Quartet will trade in the
cloudy skies of Belgium for a full weekend of sunshine
and warmth in Arizona, with a Saturday recorder
workshop in Phoenix, followed by two performances,
Sunday in Tucson and Monday in Flagstaff. The Desert
Pipes, the Phoenix-area chapter of the American
Recorder Society, invites you to our spring recorder
workshop in Phoenix on Saturday, March 8, with FRQ
members Bart Spanhove and Joris van Goethem at the
helm. With these acclaimed clinicians and repertoire
ranging from 16th century Spain through Bach and
the Balkans to 2008 jazz, the workshop is the perfect
way to begin an FRQ spring weekend in Arizona. FMI:

8 March The Blue Heron Workshop, Cambridge,
MA. Sing music from Blue Heron's repertoire under the
direction of the ensemble's music director, Scott Metcalfe, in the very place it calls "home" for subscription
concerts. Learn something about how the music might
have been sung by the original performers. The 2014
workshop is co-sponsored by Night Song. Workshops
are open to all, although pre-registration is required.

12 April Ann Arbor Recorder Society Spring
Workshop, Ann Arbor, MI. Theme of the one-day
workshop is Renaissance Music of the Court of Burgundy, featuring the works of Obrecht, Josquin, and
others. The workshop leader is Kathryn Montoya, who
teaches recorder and historical oboes at Oberlin Conservatory and the University of North Texas. She
appears with a variety of orchestral and chamber music
ensembles including the internationally acclaimed
Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra, Tafelmusik, the
Wiener Akademie, Arion, and Hesperus, among others.
Workshop participants are invited to bring recorders of
all sizes as well as other early wind or string instruments, such as dulcians, crumhorns, or viols. The workshop is held at the Turner Senior Resource Center and
lunch is provided. Registration fee is $40, or $35 if
submitted by March 30. Registration forms will be sent
to previous workshop attendees and Ann Arbor

12 - 14 April Mini-Course: 12th Century Aquitanian Polyphony, Boston University, Boston, MA. Benjamin Bagby, professor at the Sorbonne and director of
the ensemble Sequentia, will return to CEMS this
spring to teach a course on Aquitanian polyphony.
