Upgrade existing equipment, install a new panel and aesthetically enhance the cockpit area. When did the project begin? May 2011 When was it completed? July 2011
The objective of the installation was to upgrade existing equipment, install a new panel and aesthetically enhance the cockpit area.
What makes this project unique? Dual G600 Class B TAWS units were installed and coupled to Garmin’s new GTN650/750 navigators, while saving the Gables control head remote Collins ADF system for student training. Did any problems occur while working on the project? A problem was engineering to existing Sperry SPZ200A autopilot and finding a quiet place for the magnetometers. how were the problems resolved? Perseverance and engineering; fabricating insulation stand offs to mount the wing-tip nav and strobe-lights assembly; and run the ground for this back into the cabin area.
Did you learn anything from this project? Be cautious of coupling older autopilots to new digital equipment. What was the customer’s response? The customer was happy with the quality of work and operation of the new equipment. Additional comments: Equipment installed was Dual G600’s Class B TAWS, GMA350 audio panel with voice command, GTN750 navigator, GTN650 navigator, Dual GTX330 transponders, GTS820 traffic, GDL69A weather and music, Satellite Phone system, Bose panel power headsets, EX500 to EX600 Avidyne upgrade, Mid-Continent 2.25-inch back-up indicators, overhaul of all electroluminescent panels, instrument panel cad, cut and painted in house.
