Rockwell Collins Scholarship

Annette Lovett of Gulfport, Fla., plans to earn her airframe and powerplant licenses from National Aviation Academy and then pursue her avionics certifications by completing NAA’s avionics training program. After graduation, Lovett plans to earn an associate degree in science and aviation management degree and ultimately an aviationrelated engineering degree. Lovett is very active in her community and volunteers with many church and youth organizations. After working in the industry for companies like Boeing, UPS or Northrop Grumman, she plans to continue her work with future generations by teaching and conducting research in aviation-related fields.

Sporty’s Foundation Recreational Pilot Certificate

Richard Zeier of Los Angeles, Calif., has been with Mid-Continent Instruments and Avionics in Van Nuys for four years, where he brought his electronics and communications expertise from the music-recording and audio-manufacturing industries. As an avionics technician, Zeier hopes his flight training will provide insights into how pilots use their gear and how the systems integrate in the aircraft. He is confident that his electronics background and the added pilot knowledge will make him a more effective troubleshooter and create more productive discussions with his customers regarding their avionics and instruments.

Southeast Aerospace Scholarship

For Aaron Prince of Geigertown, Penn., interest in aviation started at a young age when he visited Mid-Atlantic Air Museum’s World War II weekend. Fascinated by the warbirds, he joined the Civil Air Patrol and became the aerospace training officer for his squadron. Prince has completed his first year of the Bachelor of Science program in aviation maintenance technology at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Upon completion, he plans to continue with the avionics and management courses and find employment in corporate aviation or working with vintage aircraft or warbirds. He also plans to expand his participation with the EAA and help promote the cause of general aviation.

Thomas J. Slocum Memorial Scholarship to Redstone College
Matthew Davidson of Colorado Springs, Colo., plans to eventually earn an engineering degree and is currently pursuing an avionics degree at Redstone College in Broomfield, Colo. Davidson also is working on his private pilot’s license and has more than 85 hours logged. A volunteer for his church’s audio visual department, Davidson plans to turn his experience into real-world expertise with Lockheed Martin or by working as part of a military contract.

Adam Van Lente of Westerville, Ohio, is relatively new to the aviation field. He joined Spirit Avionics as an apprentice technician just a few years ago. He recently attended his first AEA International Convention and Trade Show in Washington, D.C., and was astounded by all the information that helped fuel his passion to learn to fly. With flight training, he will become more knowledgeable with the in-flight aspects of avionics systems and be more valuable to the customers of Spirit Avionics.

Tom Taylor Memorial Scholarship to Spartan College of Aeronautics & Technology

Bret Wardlaw of Okeene, Okla., plans to pursue an associate degree of applied science in aviation maintenance technology and also pursue his pilot’s license. He later plans to earn a bachelor’s degree to broaden his job opportunities upon graduation. Wardlaw’s desire to pursue a career in aviation was sparked when a neighbor introduced him to his work as a crop duster. He was intrigued, and he learned to build and fly remote control airplanes and eventually got to refuel, clean and occasionally help repair large aircraft. His work included building an RV-4 and restoring an old crop duster. q
