AEA Scholarship
Applications Available Online

New Scholarships Honor Memory of Monte Mitchell, Chuck Freeland
The AEA Educational Foundation will
award scholarships for the 2014-15 school
year to students pursuing a career in avionics or aircraft maintenance, as well as
technicians from AEA member companies.
A new scholarship to be awarded this
year is the Monte Mitchell Scholarship,
which honors Mitchell’s service of more
Monte Mitchell
than 40 years to the general aviation industry. Mitchell first served as the AEA executive director and
later as president of the association from 1977 to 1996. With
Mitchell’s leadership, the AEA Educational Foundation was
created in 1990 to enhance, promote and secure the future of
aviation and the AEA by furthering the education of students,
technicians, members of the AEA and others as determined by
aviation industry needs. This scholarship will be awarded to an

AEA member and will cover a full AEA
Convention registration, including travel
and hotel expenses.
In addition, the AEA also introduces the
Chuck Freeland Memorial Scholarship
to honor Freeland’s impressive career of
more than 30 years and an unparalleled
passion for flying and youth involvement

in aviation. This new flight training scholarship will be awarded to an AEA member.
Since its inception, the AEA scholarship program has awarded
more than $1.5 million in scholarships. Numerous awards are
available, ranging from $1,000 to more than $35,000 each.
Requests for complete scholarship packages are available
online after Oct. 1, 2013, at www.aea.net/scholarship. The deadline for returning applications is Feb. 15, 2014. q

MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
In honor of Chuck’s passion for flying and contribution to the industry, this scholarship
fund will be awarded annually to an inspiring student to be used for flight training.
