What was the objective
of this project?
To bring the aircraft up-to-date
with current navigation and safety
equipment, and also comply with
upcoming rule changes.

When did the project begin?
Prep started May 21, 2013;
installation began May 25, 2013
When was it completed?
June 8, 2013
What makes this
project unique?
This was our first dual GTN with
remote GTX 33ES and GMA 35,
which made for some learning on
our part, as well.
Did you encounter
any problems?
Connecting the Garmin navigators
to the autopilot and compass
system took a little bit of work,

having to understand and remove
previous HSI interfaces.
How were the
problems resolved?
By taking our time and getting
the correct drawings for previous
installations, we could work through
and remove, retain or replace wires
as required for the new installation.
What did you learn
from this project?
In the end, it is easiest and most
efficient to spend time at the start of
an installation and fully dismantle the
area you are working in, gaining as
much access as possible. By doing
so, shops will save blood, sweat and
swear words in the long run.
What was the
customer’s response?
The customer was very happy. It
was a big learning curve, but the
customer loves all the new features
available with the GTN navigators.
Additional Comments:
By removing 86.5 pounds and
installing 27.9 pounds, we saved the
customer a whopping 58.6 pounds. q

AFTER

The new panel layout is clean with all the important information for the pilot being
displayed in one area.
