training, AIM was about to start
an avionics program, and the
school hired Kenney as an avionics
teacher. In 1994, AIM began
developing aviation maintenance
technician career schools. The
facility in Manassas, which opened
in 2001, was the fifth campus to
join the AIM system.
"The inspiration to write the
book came from one of my mentors
in the military," Kenney said. "He
had given me so much information
to help me succeed, and I just
wanted the capability to do the
same."
Located in the small town of
Weyers Cave, Va., Avotek began
operations in 1967, focusing on
parts sales. The company's leaders
found aviation maintenance
schools were suffering from a lack
of affordable training systems.
In those days, many schools
were using military surplus or
homemade training aids. They
needed something better. Avotek
stepped in to satisfy the need by
manufacturing fully functioning,
and modern, training systems.

trainers. In 2001, the company
began developing high-quality and
