" Empire features 4K60 videophile-level capability, instant
switching and zero compression to our new 4K OLED
monitors, " Feuerhak said. " We're excited about it. Hopefully,
we'll have PMA by first or second quarter next year. "
Elevate audio system
If you're attending NBAA-BACE, stop by CMS' booth 1630
to hear about the company's newest addition - the Elevate audio
system. The modular audio amplifier allows individual sound
cards to be added as needed.
" It saves on cost because you can make it as big or as small
as you want it to be, " Feuerhak said. " You don't have to buy the
extra modules if you don't need them. The same goes for the
power supply. It's modular, so you can either slide in a DC power
supply or an AC power supply.
" And then we have our high-end speakers that are pretty
thin. They're about 1-inch thick in the PSU, and we're hoping
between 2.5 and 3 inches for the subwoofer underneath the seats.
The amplifiers and speakers are powerful, almost double what's
out there in the business aviation market today as far as power
wattage rating. "
HD monitors
HD monitors round out CMS' lineup. The touchscreen,
flush-mounted, wireless-capable monitors come in six screen
sizes, from 10.1 inches to 32 inches.
" We started with switching, just cabin control, but it was

quickly apparent that we really needed to have an end-to-end
solution, " Feuerhak said. " That's why we're branching out and
adding other components. We're creating a really good retrofit
solution and a cost-competitive replacement for Venue and
Ovation. "
Unique approach to manufacturing
At Conroe-North Houston Regional Airport in Texas, CMS
designs, tests, manufactures, assembles and repairs its products
at the company's DO-160 test lab, PAH/DAH manufacturing
facility and Part 145 repair station. It also has staff working
remotely in other locations around the United States.
To accommodate the new products and facilitate the
transition from R&D to full production, CMS recently
doubled the size of its manufacturing space from 2,000 to
4,000 square feet.
Feuerhak credits the company's approach to design and
manufacturing as key to its goal of keeping installation time
and cost down.
" We 3D print all of our bezels and adapter brackets, " he
explained. " The brackets fit in the existing holes so that the
MRO doesn't have to do any modifications to the interior. It's a
large order of magnitude cheaper. For most installs, technicians
mill a bezel out of aluminum, which costs several hundred
dollars. We can 3D print the same kind of bezel in plastic for
pennies on the dollar. We send it out for plating, and it looks
and feels similar to a metal bezel. We 3D print all the housings
as well. "
