The reason for the is widely misunderstood, as
demonstrated by the largely negative public comments to
date. The proposed rule is not a futile attempt by the FAA
to meet the green trend. ather, the proposed rule would
align with emission standards set by the International
Civil Aviation Organiation with staunch support in its
development from the aviation industry. Since 2, ICAO
has considered actions that would limit or reduce aviation's

noise and emissions, agreed on a new CO2
emission
standard for certain airplanes. The standard was adopted by
ICAO in arch 217.
Contrary to some concerns in public comments,
the proposed standards are not being pushed solely by
international interests. oth the FAA and the Environmental
rotection Agency participate in the CAE, and the EA's
new 4 CF art 1 and the FAA's new 14 CF art 8
are intended to align with one another.
