Do you think you'll pursue being a
professional helicopter pilot full time
or perhaps provide contracted
helicopter services?
I wouldn't mind doing that. I think I'll build my own
helicopter. I have a Hiller that I'm going to build. If I tell
people that I'm an A&P before I tell them I'm a helicopter
pilot, they tend to hire me as a mechanic instead of a pilot,
so I don't think I'll mention that anymore.
I told search and rescue that when I have my helicopter
ready, we'll sign up to help. I might do some cherry drying,
but what I really want to do with the helicopter is provide
reasonably priced helicopter training. It's normally really
expensive.
My goal is to be a place where you can get your
helicopter license without signing away your life. When
I earn my CFI license, it will be for both helicopter
and fixed-wing. That's the plan. I'm still working on
my commercial helicopter pilot's license, and I started
training for the fixed-wing add-on. I also plan to get
my avionics technician license at the next annual AEA
Convention as well as an FCC license.
Given what you said earlier, you
wouldn't have been able to have
your own Hiller in Norway?
No. That would be hard. I probably could have had it
shipped over there, but the cost to get it to Norway would
be so high that it wouldn't really be worth it.
You're incredibly busy.
How are you managing?
I like being busy. I always have. I thrive when I'm busy
and doing things I enjoy. q
